Artist statement:

Sending Love is a collaborative installation by Reiko Fujii, Manon Wada, Irene Wibawa, and Maggie Yee, which references the collective of care that has formed between them. They are four multidisciplinary artists who first met through Asian American Women Artists Association and an affiliate program called A Place of Her Own circa 2014. In the past they frequently exhibited work together and also collaborated on art installations. Before and through the pandemic they stayed in communication with each other via monthly zoom meetings and an exchange of mail art. At the heart of their interaction is a circle of friendship that has served as a lifeline during these times of turmoil, change, and transition. Their installation “Sending Love” presents a collection of materials celebrating friendship, belonging, and community care.

Note: the following images are documentation of our installation process. Maggie and her husband Brian drove up from Santa Cruz to participate in this process. Manon participated via FaceTime because she lives in Brooklyn, NY. We are all very grateful for each other’s collaborative roles in this process.
