drawings

I returned to somewhat of a daily drawing practice in 2014 and began a blog at the encouragement of Jessica Serran, when I was taking her course, Keep Your Ass in the Studio

The daily drawing waned into drawing whenever I was traveling to and from dance class on the BART trains (Bay Area Rapid Transit).

In the spring of 2015, the thumb on my dominant hand (right hand) got infected, so I stopped using that thumb for a while. I began drawing with my non-dominant hand (left hand), and I feel like my drawings improved. The people started to look less Asian and more like the subjects I was trying to draw, even though the lines are wobbly. I also enjoy the feeling of letting go of expectations in my non-dominant sketches. Once I let go of the expectations, I enjoyed the process more. It was always a surprise and felt less judgmental than my dominant handed drawings. I continue that practice, even though my thumb is no longer infected and is fully functioning. I just have to remember to do it.

In June 2016, my 23 yr old car with nonfunctioning speedometer, odometer, blew the gasket on its second engine, so I laid it to rest and got a new car instead. As a result, I drive everywhere now, but sadly I no longer have a consistent practice. My drawings have been relegated to staff meetings and seminars.
